Steak and tomatoes with more tomatoes


Steak to me, is the ultimate man food.

Like Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation, he is a wood worker short on words and big on meaty appetite and he apologises to no one. Yes, with his mustache commanding respect from his employees steak is the food he goes to for all his dietary needs.

A hunk of meat, ready to fill a man’s sometimes seemingly endless appetite, yes very Ron Swanson-esque.

When you are a single girl like me, cooking for one or two is really easy and it’s usually vegetarian. My single girl friends don’t like cooking for themselves, they think it’s pointless. It may in fact be because they don’t eat too much either.

Without many opportunities to feed men it is a daunting prospect. Their appetites are just so much larger then a girls. They’ll snack, eat dinner, then snack again and still be rummaging for more food.

My go-to food to satisfy their hunger is steak, maybe because of characters like Ron Swanson, but also because of the size of the appetites of people like my father and brother.

Sure, there are plenty of vegan and vegetarian males, yet I haven’t met many. And for those large eaters, I imagine this dinner would go done well.

Steak with Three Tomato Salad
Serves 4

4 medium rump steaks
1 1/2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
1/2 pound heirloom tomatoes, quartered
1/2 cup sundried tomatoes
100g feta cheese, crumbled
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar

Heat a large frying pan on medium high heat and fry either side of a steak according to preferences (medium rare is approximately 3 minutes either side).

Combines the sliced fresh and sundried tomatoes.

Add in the feta and fold to combine.

Arrange the steak and the tomato salad, drizzling balsamic vinegar over the salad.

Serve immediately.
