Hi I’m Sylvie,

Welcome to my site and thanks for visiting. This blog is all about bringing foreign cooking into your kitchen and the ability to take something you’ve heard of/tasted on an adventure/seen somewhere right to your home screen and show you how to make it yourself. So if you love foreign food, cooking and seeing a little bit of the world then this is a place you might like to visit often.

Roamingtaste was created when my life needed a shake up in early 2012 on the cusp of turning 25. It was either this or run away on some rebellion which at the time I didn't have the funds for. I'm originally from New Zealand (the land of hobbits and sheep), but these days reside in London Auckland London (again) and am either busy in the kitchen or planning my next trip somewhere.

I don't use advertisements or pop ups on this blog to make it a welcoming place, but running this site does cost time and money so if you would like to donate to keep me going, it would be greatly appreciated.

A few fun facts about me:

My go-to tradition while traveling is to ready 'Into the Wild' by Jon Krakauer. An infinitely powerful read about an individual who chose to forgo the 'routine' path.

One of my favorite things to do while in a new land is go for a long walk and see what I can discover.

I’ve recently come to the conclusion that my love of cooking is due to losing a cookbook in my childhood – the chocolate mousse and corn fritters I never had a chance to make and share with others spurs me to save every recipe I find in the hopes it is a long lost one I have seen before.

Greatest tip I’ve ever received regarding travel: “You won’t be the same when you return, but you have to make the best out of the reality you are faced with.” It’s true!

As seen in my images, I have a deep passion of photography that began early and when I’m not cooking or planning adventures, I spend a large portion of my time with a camera in hand seeing what I can capture. The camera of choice is a Canon 600D which has been a trusty and steadfast piece of my life since two thousand and eleven and is the camera I use to shoot all the photographs found here (on occasion there are iPhone shots also).

I’ve done most of my travel on my own, so please feel free to contact me and discuss any thoughts/questions you may have about this.

Now, if I could make you anything it would be this delightful chocolate mousse because it takes time to create and then more time to reach perfection and time is the best thing anyone can be given.
